David Sparkes

David Walter Sparkes , 72 of Mason, passed on Saturday, November 7, 2020. Born to Walter Bennett and Gertrude (nee Quinn) Sparkes on January 30, 1948 in Lynn, Massachusetts.

David was a truck driver for Nash Finch Company for over 35 years. He was a proud Army veteran and a member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles, which met regularly at the American Legion in Mason. David enjoyed swimming in the ocean, eating good food, and spending time with his family.  He dreamt of cultivating his own fruit orchard and spent many hours in his small garden with his tomatoes and peppers; The family farm was his happy place.

David had a wonderful sense of humor and insisted that every family photo needed “bunny ears.” He enjoyed the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade and swore it “wasn’t Christmas until [he] saw Santa.” Vacationing, the fresh ocean air, connecting with his siblings, and truck shows were some of his favorite things.

He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Walter and Gertrude Sparkes.

David is survived by his wife of 46 years, Gilda (nee Hundley) Sparkes, three children, William Sparkes, Lauren (Ben Sherman) Sparkes, and Meredith (Justin) Dean, four siblings, Paul (Anita) Sparkes, Ellen (Dean) Erickson, Pete (Trina) Sparkes and Rick (Adam) Sparkes, his best friend, Ed, four nieces, his kitty, Lola, and many wonderful neighbors.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, November 12 ^th from 5:00PM-7:00PM with a funeral service at 7:00PM all at Mueller Funeral Home, 6791 Tylersville Road, Mason, Ohio 45040. A private burial will take place in Dayton National Cemetery.
