Dean Phan

October 3, 1953 — April 16, 2024

Dean Van Phan was born October 3, 1953, in Phan Thiet, Vietnam.

He is the seventh of nine children of Sanh Phan and Quyen Thi Nguyen.

Growing up in a beach town, Dean loved the ocean, tennis, scouting, and martial arts. Being active was important to Dean his entire life. An excellent student, he went on to study chemical engineering at the University of Liege in Belgium. Dean had a sharp, scientific mind and held over a hundred U.S. patents, creating polymers used in many household products. His university days in Europe also informed his refined taste in international food, music, and travel.

Fearless and passionate, Dean moved to the United States to marry his wife, Angie Trandai. Together, they had two daughters, Michelle and Christine.

A quietly generous family man, Dean sponsored and supported many members of his extended family as well.

He died on April 16, 2024, after living with Parkinson’s Disease for nearly 20 years. He is survived by his wife, Angie, daughters, Michelle and Christine, son-in-laws, Linh and Addison, and siblings, Quan V. Phan (France), Binh V. Phan (Belgium), Phong V. Phan (Belgium), Suong N. Phan (Netherlands), and Huong T. Phan (Vietnam).
