On Christmas Day, we lost our wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Denise Krallman of Liberty Township, Ohio, was called home by our Lord after 69 years on this world. She was born and raised in Blacksburg, Virginia. Denise is survived by her husband; her daughter Kelli Krallman and grandson James Howard of West Chester, Ohio; her son Keith Krallman and his wife Sarah Bailey of Portland, Oregon; her sister Dianne and her husband John Krallman of Blacksburg, Virginia; her brother Daniel Hylton and his wife Elaine of Dothan, Alabama; her brother-in-law Glen (Sid) Krallman and his wife Sherry of Mount Pleasant, Pennsylvania; and her brother-in-law Dean Krallman of Herminie, Pennsylvania. She also leaves behind nieces and nephews, including Samantha Johnson (husband Will; children Arielle, Gabrielle, and Preston); Shana Krallman (partner Rafael; son Liam); Sara Goldman (husband Marc; children Ana and Grace); Kevin Krallman (wife Anna Kramer); Paul Hylton (wife Jessica; children Jade, Lilly, and Kayla); David Hylton; and Andrew Hylton (wife Kaitlyn). She was predeceased by her parents, Alvah and Thelma Hylton, and her nephew, John Travis Krallman.
Denise was an employee of Miami University for 25 years, working in the Office of Institutional Research and occasionally teaching for Farmer School of Business. She retired as the Director of Institutional Research in 2018, recognized by the Board of Trustees as Administrator Emerita for the advancements and prestige she brought to the university. Among the many honors she proudly received, she was awarded the Diversity and Inclusion Award from the Office of Institutional Diversity and Inclusion. She was dedicated to the university and the department, returning after retirement to assist whenever needed.
Denise was also an active member in numerous professional associations, serving in various leadership positions. The roles she was privileged to hold included the Secretary and External Relationships Committee Chair for the Association of Institutional Research (AIR) from 2002 to 2005 and President of the North East Association for Institutional Research (NEAIR) from 2007 to 2008.
After retiring from Miami University, Denise served as the Council President at Lord of Life Lutheran Church in West Chester, Ohio, up until her passing. She was a devoted servant at Lord of Life for almost 30 years, feeling a call to help others through the church.
She enjoyed visiting national parks and bringing her grandson to Legoland, Disney World, and the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. Earlier this year, she finally traveled to the Holy Land with her church family, which had been a lifelong dream. When at home, Denise spent much of her free time in her library reading with one of her cats on her lap.
Celebration of Life will be held on January 2 at 11am at Lord of Life Lutheran Church in West Chester. A luncheon will follow the celebration of life service also at the church.
In lieu of flowers, Denise’s family has asked for donations to a memorial fund at Lord of Life Lutheran Church.
