Doris Odor

Doris Elaine Schreiber Odor (age 95) originally from Brookville, Indiana graduated from High School in 1947 and the Cincinnati Bible Seminary in 1951. She was number four of seven children born to Fred R. and Barbara B. Schreiber. She married Ivan Cook Odor in 1951 and was married 58 years until his death in 2009. She had two sons: Kent Carter, and Kevin Carroll. She had 7 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren with another one expected in one more week. Her husband Ivan was a preacher, and together they served churches in Kentucky, Tennessee, Indiana, Illinois, and Michigan.

She and her husband both came from large farm families in homes without indoor plumbing or electricity.  Both families were strong in their faith and within three generations, produced twelve preachers and multiple church leaders in many church ministries. As a preacher’s wife she found a sweet spot in practicing hospitality, raising her children, and encouraging the members of the congregations they served.  She was known as a person of strength and encouragement through the cards and letters she sent and by walking in step with her husband as they served together.

She and Ivan moved into the Mason Christian Village in 2008. After Ivan died, through hundreds of cards and personal letters she continued ministering to her family, former church members and the community of new friends, both residents and staff, in the MCV.  She will be remembered for her steady service, her unwavering and generous encouragement and her love and devotion to her family. She provided an exemplary model of a fully dedicated servant of Christ to all who were acquainted with her throughout her life.  Her homegoing is celebrated by a host of family and friends near and far; as this world was not her home, she was just passing through. Thank you, Doris, mom, grandma, and great grandma for a life well lived!

Visitation will be held on Monday, July 24th from 10:00-11:00am with a funeral service at 11:00AM all at Mason Christian Village Stone Center, 411 Western Row Rd, Mason, OH 45040. Interment will be in Williamstown Cemetery, Williamstown, Kentucky.
