Emblem

Douglas Jan Olinger, surrounded by the love of his family, passed away peacefully on April 25, 2025, at the age of 86. Born on June 3, 1938, in San Francisco, California, to his parents Otto and Dorthy Olinger. Doug's life was marked by devotion to his family, faith, and country. He was preceded in death by his brother, Kent Olinger.

Doug's journey brought him to Cincinnati, Ohio, where he graduated from Woodward High School in the class of 1956 and later earned a degree from the University of Cincinnati. His commitment to service led him to the Navy Reserves, where he proudly served for 8 years. A devout Catholic and a member of Good Shepherd Parish, Doug's strong faith in God was a guiding force throughout his life. He held a deep love for his country, a sentiment he often expressed.

For 37 years, Doug dedicated his professional life to Proctor & Gamble, where he excelled as a mentor and leader in sales. His career took his family to various locations across the Northeast and Midwest, as well as Toronto, Canada. He enjoyed many years of his retirement in San Destin, Florida.

A lifelong enthusiast of golf, Doug celebrated the rare achievement of six hole-in-ones throughout his years on the links. He cherished his memberships at Bel Wood, Wetherington, Rivers Bend, and Burnt Pine Country Clubs, finding many friendships and joy on the fairways. In his later years, Doug appreciated the simple pleasures of life: a good glass (or two) of red wine and sharing laughter and stories with his cherished friends and family, especially during his weekly "D.O.M.’s" meetings.

Doug's greatest joy was undoubtedly his family. He shared 65 wonderful years of marriage with the love of his life, Bev Olinger. He is survived by his seven children and their families: Marty Olinger (Nicole), Laura Neal (Todd), Jeff Olinger (Karen), Keith Olinger (Lori), Brian Olinger, Lisa Gordon (Simon), and Lynn Wheeler (Jeff). His legacy continues through his 22 grandchildren (Jason, Zac, Ben, Jack, Ryan N., Chris N., Mary, Brad, Chris O., Andrew, Julia, Kyle, Ashley, Kris, Grace, Madison, Ryan O., Emme, Brady, Samantha, Wyatt and Myles) and 21 great-grandchildren, all of whom he loved deeply. While a dedicated and hardworking man, Doug's most defining characteristic was his immense love for his family.

It was Doug's heartfelt tradition to conclude any prayer or gathering with his favorite sentiment. In fitting tribute to his life, we close this testament with his endearing words: "God Bless Our Troops."
