Edward J. Heintzman

November 13, 1933 — July 19, 2021

US NAVY VETERAN

Edward J. Heintzman, 87, formerly of Reading, OH passed away peacefully on Monday morning, July 19, 2021, at Brookwood Retirement Community. He was the devoted husband of the late Imelda M. (nee Groh) Heintzman for almost 60 years; devoted father of Teresa (Jay) Cramer, Rob (Tina) Heintzman, and Julie Phillips; loving Papaw of Logan, Griffin, and Preston; dear brother of Mary Lou Mansfield, Don Heintzman, and the late Dorothy Caudill, Lois Hughes, Tom Heintzman, and Joni Hamm.  Edward was born to the late Dorothy (Simonson) and John Heintzman on November 13, 1933.

Ed met Imelda (Mel) at Friendly's Restaurant in Lockland.  Mel's parents weren't happy that Ed wore a leather jacket on their first date so they told her she could date Ed if he wouldn't wear it. The leather jacket found a new home and they married on October 26, 1957, just 49 days after he completed his Navy tour as a boiler tech on the USS McDermott.  Ed and Mel shared the same birthday of November 13th and amusingly he never forgot her birthday.  He was a skilled carpenter and had his own successful carpentry business for many years while working into his late 70's when his health determined it was time to take a pause.  You could always find Ed either in church (never missed going to mass), coaching his children's baseball teams, running children to accordion lessons, bowling with St. Pat's Knights of Columbus, perched on a bleacher cheering on his grandsons, enjoying his lakeside cottage and a pontoon boat ride on Elk Lake, looking forward to their next trip to the casino (or two), or just working with a nail and hammer.  Family meant everything to him and he loved them dearly.  His love was endless and it showed in everything he did.  He made an impact on so many lives and will be missed beyond words by his family and friends.

Visitation will be at Mueller Funeral Home, 6791 Tylersville Road, Mason,  OH 45040 on Thursday, July 22, 2021 from 8:30 -10 AM.
