Elizabeth Strebin

Elizabeth Ann Strebin of Cincinnati, OH, formerly of Cobden, Illinois. Born on June 8, 1933, in Cobden, the daughter of Albert and Elva Townsend.

She was married to James R. Strebin on August 7, 1960, in Cobden, and they moved to Pennsylvania for 36 years before returning to southern Illinois.

Elizabeth graduated from Southern Illinois University with a degree in education and a minor in music.  She completed a master’s degree in education from the University of Illinois. She was an elementary school teacher and piano teacher for many years, something she had a true passion for.

Liz was active in the music ministry (piano, organ, choir) for many years. She and Jim were longtime volunteers with the Red Cross Blood Donor Mobile and Hospice of Southern Illinois.

Elizabeth was a member of Mount Moriah Lutheran Church in Anna, IL and was a member of St. Barnabas Episcopal Church in Montgomery, OH. Liz was a devoted member of the Eastern Star, and a Life Member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority.

Elizabeth was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, David and William Townsend.  She is survived by her husband, James; one son, William (Lisa) Strebin; one daughter, Beth (Peter) Clayton; two grandsons, Matthew Clayton and Bradley Clayton; two granddaughters, Kari Strebin and Avery Clayton; and one great granddaughter, Sofia.

A visitation will be held at St. Barnabas Episcopal Church, 10345 Montgomery Road, on Saturday, September 2nd, 12-1pm.   The Memorial Service will follow at 1pm.

Memorial donations may be made in her name to the Linden Grove School Music Program .
