Francis R. Reid

January 30, 1928 — April 5, 2019

Francis Roy Reid, died peacefully on April 5, 2019, in Mason, Ohio. Born in West Village, Illinois, to Roy Ross and Bessie Gumbrell Reid, on January 30, 1928, he graduated with a degree in Ministry from Cincinnati Bible Seminary. While at home one winter break, he met Billie Joyce Holmes, of Fairfield, Illinois, also a student at Cincinnati Bible Seminary. They were married in 1947. Francis and Billie prepared for ministry and served the Lord together over the next 60 years. Their hearts were fully committed to evangelism and the spread of the Gospel. They were called to ministries in Kentucky, Ohio, Alabama, Pennsylvania, Indiana, and Florida. Several "Timothies" Francis mentored were ordained into ministry including Dan Thurston, Bob George, Rich Janney, Paul Walker, Hugh Hurley, Jr., and Ruth Ann Jones. Francis' first love was always evangelism, and while in Ohio, he and Billie developed the Christian Workers' Clinic to skillfully prepare workers to reach many for Christ. Also, in Xenia, Francis sang bass with the King's Men, a gospel quartet, which sang for revivals and civic programs. Later, during his ministry in Florida, there were more Timothies who felt the call to ministry - Fred Johnson, John Peterson, Ranny Grady, Damon Reid, Paige Mathews, Gale Wenzel, Greg Hoover, Mark Clark, Lee Saylor, Judi Reid, Lyn Reid, Dan Reid, Les Iseminger and Dorothy Eunson. During this ministry, Francis was instrumental in the beginning of Florida Christian College, serving as a Trustee. During his ministries, he was involved in several building projects, helping churches into better spaces for their worship and he also joined the Georgia Church Builders in many two-week long building projects with a construction team building a new construction church building from the ground up in just two weeks. He enjoyed this ministry immensely. When retired, Francis and Billie worked as a ministry team at Lakeland Funeral Home, ministering to families during their time of loss. They worshipped with the Winter Haven Church of Christ encouraging and ministering with friends and family. They retired to Mason Christian Village in Mason, Ohio. Francis' hobbies included wood-working projects - building furniture, baby cradles for his grandchildren and other projects as well as upholstering antique pieces of furniture with Billie.

Francis is survived by: two daughters, Lyn (Don) Sewell and Judi (John) Troyer; two sons, Damon (Lucy) Reid and Dan (Angie) Reid; 12 grandchildren, Kristi (Curtis) Templeton, Jennifer (Brian) Johnson, Josh (Sonya) Troyer, Jonathan (Lora) Troyer, JoAnna (Marc) Jones, Jeremy (Kristin) Troyer, Jeff (Allie) Troyer, Adam (Niki) Reid, Rachel (Chad) Brown, Nathaniel (Abby) Reid, Seth (Kaylee) Reid and Danielle Reid; 26 great-grandchildren; his sister, Marie Myers, of West Salem, Illinois; and his nieces and nephews.
