Gary Lee Gammell

April 30, 1937 — September 9, 2023

Gary Lee Gammell, Maineville, OH, passed away peacefully on Sept 9th, 2023 at the age of 86. He was born in Dayton, Ohio and graduated in 1955 from Kiser High School.  The son of William and Minnie Belle (Winkle) Gammell.

After high school, Gary served in the Army Reserves and Air National Guard while starting his career in the banking and insurance field. He later moved into the electronics industry where he subsequently purchased Barbey Electronics in 1980, serving on various boards and committees within the electronic industry.

Besides working, Gary enjoyed spending time at the Jersey Shore with his family, attending Reading Phillies baseball games while also serving on their advisory board and later enjoying the Cincinnati Reds and Dayton Dragons games after the company expanded into the Cincinnati market.  Gary was also an avid fan of The Ohio State University Buckeye football team.  Always keeping himself busy, Gary could often be found reading, watching sports on tv, tinkering, woodworking, weaving, volunteering at Church and enjoying time with his grandchildren.

Gary didn’t know a stranger and was always quick to strike up a conversation while waiting in line, dining at a restaurant or wherever he would be.  Always laughing and joking, he had a large personality that would light up any room he was in.  Family was the light of his life and held a special place in his heart.  It was clear that family held the utmost importance in his life as he was always providing love, support, a shoulder to lean on, an ear to bend, a laugh or a big, warm hug to make you feel better when you were down.

Preceded in death by his parents William and Minnie Belle Gammell, his sister Phyllis Barrett, brother Willard Gammell and niece Joyce Barrett Frye.

Gary is survived by his wife Judith L (Milby) of 64 years, and 4 daughters; Kim wife of Matt Loudis, Douglassville, PA, Gay Truehart, wife of Dan Yurkiewicz, Wyomissing, PA, Christine wife of Ron Barshinger, Myerstown, PA and Chanin wife of Bob Tussing, Mason, Ohio.  He is also survived by 10 grandchildren; Kyle (Adri) Loudis, Brad (Sarah) Loudis, Mike and Vinny Truehart, Josh (Heather) Barshinger, Daniel Barshinger, Amber Pruett, Tara (Adam) Wood, Garrett and Alexandra Tussing; 5 great grandchildren; Carter Loudis and Kenji Loudis-Peters , Scarlett, Sophia and Maverick Barshinger, Jason Wood as well as many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Suncrest Hospice, Cincinnati.
