It is with immeasurable heartache, we announce the separation from our beloved father, grandfather and great grandfather. George Washington Werden, 92, resident of Chesterwood Village in West Chester, Ohio, died on March 18, 2019. He was born the second of four sons on May 11, 1926 in New Rochelle, NY to the late Clayton Werden and Edna (nee Fowler) Werden. He enlisted in the Marines at the age of 17 and was assigned to the 1st Marine Division, L-Company, 3rd Battalion, 7th Regiment. He served during WWII in the South Pacific as an infantryman in the battles of Peleliu and Okinawa. At the conclusion of the war he served in China defending coal trains from the Communist. On March 6, 1948 he married May Ellen Viall. They had five children, the late George Werden (Vicki); Patricia Ranz (Steven); Robert Werden (Tomi); William Werden (Sharen) and John. He retired in 1991 after 42 years at General Electric as a Development Assembler. He is survived by his wife and four of his five children. He also leaves behind grandchildren Dustin Werden (Holly); Meredith Stillson (David); Zachary Werden (Stacey); Lauren Mersch (Adam); Robert Werden (Jen) and Mary Werden and seven great grandchildren: Emerson, Harper, Nick, Ella, Hudson, Knox and Ethan. He was the brother of the late Gene Grantham (Dorothy), the late Clayton Werden, Jr. (late Laura), the late Edward Werden (Adele) and Robert Werden (Helen). His pride and joy was his family.
