Gerald E. “Jerry” Shipley , of Mason, Ohio, passed away peacefully Sunday, September 25th, 2022, at the age of 92. He was born in West Union, Ohio on Tuesday, May 6th, 1930.
He graduated West Union High School where he starred on the basketball team and in 2018 was inducted in the West Union Hall of Fame. He continued playing basketball while attending the University of Cincinnati, graduating with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He married his high school sweetheart, Vera Vanlandingham in 1952.
After participating in the university’s ROTC program Jerry was called to active duty in the United States Air Force stationed in Griffiss AFB in Rome, New York. Upon his honorable discharge he began a 35-year career at General Electric in Cincinnati. While progressing through a series of positions of increasing responsibility Jerry attended night school earning an MBA from Xavier University in 1967. Working with industrial engines all over the world he traveled to Japan, The Middle East, Italy, Norway, Germany and throughout the United States, retiring in 1991.
Following retirement, Jerry and Vera enjoyed spending winters in Fort Myers, Florida playing golf and visiting with friends.
Faith was important to Jerry. He was an active member of several local churches over the years. As a resident of Mason Christian Village, he continued to practice his faith through community with fellow residents and personal daily devotions. Jerry was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He adored his family and looked forward to creating lasting memories with each member.
Jerry was preceded in death by: father, Clarence Shipley; mother, Maxine (nee Stultz) Murphy; and wife, Vera (nee Vanlandingham) Shipley.
Jerry is survived by: children, Connie (Tom) Sukay, Sharon (Andrew) Robertson, Rick (Jane) Shipley, Gary (Julie) Shipley, Chris (Brad) Ewing, and Cathy (Greg) Huffer; and many loving grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be Saturday, October 15, 2022 from 9:00 am until time of Funeral Service at 10:00 am at Mason Christian Village, Stone Worship Center, 411 Western Row Road, Mason, Ohio 45040. Internment will immediately follow in Rose Hill Cemetery, Mason, Ohio.
