Monroe

Gertrude Catherine Fettes, born on September 7, 1935, in Ontario, Canada, passed away peacefully on January 11, 2025, in Middletown, Ohio. She led a life characterized by dedication, love, and a remarkable ability to connect with those around her.

Gertrude's professional journey was distinguished by her role as Director of Nursery Schools, where she left an indelible mark on the lives of countless children and families. Her commitment to education and nurturing young minds was unwavering, earning her the respect and admiration of colleagues and families alike.

An incredibly vibrant and engaging personality, Gertrude had a zest for life that shone through in her many interests. Known as quite the card shark, she possessed an unmatched skill at games that ensured all who played against her were in for a challenge. Beyond her proficiency in card games, she cherished the joys of ice skating and swimming, activities that brought her happiness and a sense of freedom.

Her home was a reflection of her passions, filled with an extensive collection of dolls and Longaberger baskets, each telling a unique story and serving as a testament to her artistic spirit and dedication to collecting.

Gertrude earned her associate's degree, a testament to her belief in the importance of education. Her proudest accomplishments, however, were anchored deeply in her family life. She was a devoted wife to her husband, Alastair H. Fettes, and a loving mother to her three sons: Mike, Scott, and Greg (Carol) Fettes. Gertrude delighted in her role as a grandmother, nurturing bonds with her grandchildren, Christopher Fettes, Katy (Nick) Olivo, David (Tina) Fettes, and Jacob Fettes. Her love extended further to her great-grandchildren, Augie Olivo, Charlotte Olivo, Lilianna Fettes, Logan Fettes, and Landon Fettes, who undoubtedly feel the warmth of her legacy.

Gertrude's passing is preceded by her caring parents, William Theodore Phillips and Janet (nee Barnard) Phillips, as well as her siblings, Joan Patterson and George Phillips.

As those who knew and loved Gertrude reflect on her life, they are reminded of her profound impact on her family and community, her spirited personality, and her ability to earn the respect and affection of everyone she encountered. She will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed by all.
