Dunbar, Gloria Jeanne, 99, passed away peacefully January 6, 2022, at her home at Otterbein Senior Living in Lebanon, Ohio. She was surrounded by devoted family members who gave her the loving, respectful send-off that she deserved.
Jeanne was preceded in death by her loving husband of 77 years, Ralph E. Dunbar. Her survivors include her five children, Diana Brown (Moto) of Pittsburgh, Pa.; Mark Dunbar (Sherry) of Tulsa, Ok; Susan Dunbar of West Chester, Ohio; Roger Dunbar (Maria) of Centerville, Ohio; Laurel Bohlander (Vern) of West Chester, Ohio.
Jeanne and Ralph were proud to have enjoyed many Grandchildren (19) along with 20 “energized” great-grandchildren. Close friends, Becky Dunbar, Peggy Murphy, Debbie Ferguson and Shannon Willis along with scores of others are honored to have spent quality time with Jeanne. This woman will be missed by so many as she never met a stranger.
There is a saying that the most interesting people are INTERESTED. That was Jeanne! She had a natural inquisitive nature, especially about her family, birds, dogs, cats, plants, flowers, the latest news and her Cincinnati Reds and Bengals.
Everyone knew she liked to be busy and this started at the age of 17, when she worked at the first of many jobs in her birthplace, Columbus, Ohio. After marrying Ralph in 1941, they moved to Cincinnati 17 years later. She felt her 5 children weren’t going to be delinquents (her humor) or need as much attention so she started a long career working various jobs with the Finneytown School System.
Jeanne was dedicated to her faith and she and Ralph were two of the founding members of The Village Church (SDA) 7 th Day Adventist. She enjoyed those services as well as her treasured responsibility as a perky, welcoming Greeter for years. She proudly created and managed the Church’s Health Food Store from 1982-2008. (maybe that’s why she and Ralph lived so long?)
She also found time to volunteer at Bethesda North Hospital that spanned over 30 years. She loved people and was generous with her time. Her mantra was “What can I do for YOU today?” (even on the days when she wasn’t feeling her best) Her smile lit up a room and her laugh was infectious as she had a superior sense of humor. Her funny side quips could make even Johnny Carson laugh. And now…(SIGH)… the Angels are the lucky recipients of that smile and humor. Our memories are filled with wonder, admiration and love for this kind, non-judgmental soul.
