Gratia Read

Gratia D. Read (nee Reichert), of West Chester, Ohio, passed away peacefully on May 27, 2023, at the age of 96.  She was born December 9, 1926, in Cincinnati, Ohio to the late John George and Marie Ann (nee Meiners) Reichert.

Gratia loved sports, especially baseball.  She was a catcher for a ladies' fast pitch team in her younger years, sharing how she padded her glove with a washcloth or towel because the pitcher threw so hard.  She married her life-long sweetheart, Nathaniel "Nat" Read, on December 29, 1956.  Gratia was always that mom/grandma outside playing with the kids/grandkids, nothing slowed her down.  An animal lover, Gratia favored her doggies.  Together with Nat, she enjoyed traveling.  They discovered most of the United States together and even visited a few other countries. Gratia also enjoyed gardening and could be found outside working in the garden whenever the sun was shining.  She was most proud of being able to watch her grandchildren while their parents worked. She really missed them when they went to school, but was always ready to run if they ever needed a lunch or anything.

Gratia was preceded in death by parents, John and Marie Reichert; husband, Nat Read; and siblings, Forest A. Reichert, and Arvilla M. Grotlisch.

Gratia is survived by sons, David (Patrice) Read and Thomas Read; daughter, Susan Read; grandchildren, Jeffrey Read, and Sarah (Gian Scott) Read-Scott; and other loving family members and friends.

Visitation will be Wednesday, June 7, 2023, from 12:00 noon until the time of Funeral Service at 1:00 PM at Mueller Funeral Home, 6791 Tylersville Road, Mason, Ohio 45040.  Interment will follow in West Chester Cemetery.
