Jack C. Flaherty

June 8, 1934 — August 23, 2024

Jack Flaherty , age 90, was a man of community and spirit who was driven to serve the people of Mason.

The days he spent at Senour Flaherty Insurance fueled his talents and ambitions to help the citizens of Mason who he loved.

He contributed to families, business and championed Mason High School.

Jack specifically loved Mason athletics and served on the Mason football chain gang well over 40 years developing a unique camaraderie with the men he teamed with, which included his son Duke.  He was inducted into the Mason Athletic Hall of fame in 2011.  Jack was humbled to have an annual Award named in his honor.

He was an early board member at Countryside YMCA and served as president of both the Mason Chamber of Commerce and Mason Kiwanis.  Jack enjoyed the company and fellowship, the respect and memories of the “lunch bunch” to the very end.  Their conversations were the real meals that in so many ways fed them.

While Jack loved being involved in so many aspects of his Mason hometown, it was his wife Barbara who was his true joy, love and bedrock.  Married in 1955, they built a marriage that was a storybook romance to them both.  She was his sweetheart, his helpmate, and walked alongside him in every aspect to their interesting life.  They moved to Mason from Deer Park in the 1960’s and settled into a community that they loved, and Mason loved them in return.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Dorothy (Atkins) Flaherty and his daughter Kathi Flaherty.  He is survived by his beloved wife of 69 years Barbara (Puterbaugh) Flaherty, his faithful son and business partner Duke (Jennifer) Flaherty; five grandchildren Gregg (Erin) George, Bryan (Molly) Breeze, Jaysie (Ken) Valuska, Kelsey Flaherty (Alex Heck) and Jackson Flaherty; eight great grandchildren Hadley and Jack George, Brinley and Blake Breeze, Kenny and Jack Valuska and Fitzgerald and Frances Alexander Flaherty.

Jack valued and loved his work relationship with “his girls” at Senour Flaherty Insurance, Leeanne Russell, Caroline Poedtke, Tina Davidson, Jennifer Brunk and Denise Goldschmidt as well as present owner Nick Bogan.

Jack certainly finished his race well and while our family will miss his large presence, we are grateful for the assurance of faith that he is now embraced by His Savior.

If you have found your way to these words, we imagine you as well have a story to tell.

Private services will be held by Jack’s family with family friend, Randy Andrews officiating.  In lieu of flowers donations would be appreciated to the Mason Athletic Scholarship fund.

Mueller Funeral is proud to serve the Flaherty Family.
