World War II Verteran
James G. McCarthy, of West Chester, Ohio, passed away peacefully Thursday, October 24, 2019 at Heritagespring of West Chester at the age of 95. He was born Monday, February 18, 1924 in Cincinnati, Ohio to James E. and Ida (nee Elsasser) McCarthy.
At the young age of 18, Jim enlisted in the United States Navy during World War II. Jim continued his path towards becoming an optician after his military service. His love of the military continued as he served as a coordinator for Honor Flight Tri-State for several years.
Jim had many collections such as coins, trains and even pictures. An avid reader, he could often be found reading the newspaper, completing a cross-word puzzle, or finishing up the latest book. His love of a Skyline 4-way Onion will forever be remembered.
Jim was preceded in death by: the love of his life, Charlene (nee Middendorf) McCarthy; parents, James and Ida McCarthy; and sisters, Ann Utter, Helen Sullivan, and Margaret Alford.
Jim is survived by: children, Bill (Guan) Menz, Michael D. McCarthy, David (Anna) McCarthy and Paul (Cathy) McCarthy; grandchildren, Tina Cupp, Michelle Barker, Willie Menz, Chris Menz, Chris McCarthy, Jeff McCarthy, Carrie McCarthy, Maria Telles, Jon McCarthy, Kevin McCarthy, Lisa Adams and Katy Combs; 20 great-grandchildren; and many loving family members and close friends.
Visitation will be Wednesday, October 30, 2019 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at St. Maximilian Kolbe Church, 5720 Hamilton Mason Rd, Liberty Township, Ohio 45011. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 AM at the Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to Cincinnati Warbirds.
