James Phillip Potts, age 86, passed away peacefully on December 14, 2024, surrounded by loving family.
Born on October 16, 1938, in Harlan, KY, Phillip was the cherished son of Arthur and Evelyn (nee Eversole) Potts. He carried a warmth and kindness that drew people to him throughout his life.
In 1989, Phillip married his lifelong friend, Jackie (Pope) Cox. Their bond blossomed over the years into a loving partnership that exemplified true companionship and devotion.
Phillip leaves behind his adoring wife, Jackie, and a legacy of love through his children: Rick (Judy) Cox, Chelle (Art) Precht, and D.J. Potts. He was a proud grandfather to T.R. (Kim), Chris, and Ben (Erika), and a great-grandfather to Quinn, Skylar, Raylan, Kira, and Kelvin. Phillip is also survived by his sister-in-law, Jill (Harold) Cudd, along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends who will miss him dearly.
Phillip was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Eleanor, and brother-in-law, Carl Perkins as well as son Chad Cox.
Phillip served his country proudly for 20 years including his time in Vietnam and as a recruiter for the Navy. His service underscored his dedication and commitment, traits that he carried into all aspects of his life.
Phillip had a passion for University of Kentucky basketball; he truly bled Kentucky Blue, and his enthusiasm for the sport brought joy to many. He loved to travel with Jackie, creating beautiful memories on numerous cruises and family trips. However, nothing brought him more joy than the treasured family game nights and playing cards, moments that he held dear to his heart.
Visitation for Phillip will be held at Mueller Funeral Home (6791 Tylersville Road, Mason, OH 45040) on Wednesday, December 18, 2024, at 12:00 PM, followed by a funeral service at 1:00 PM. Burial with military honors will take place at Rose Hill Cemetery.
Phillip's spirit will live on in the hearts of all who loved him, reminding us of the joy of family, friendship, and unwavering support. He will forever be missed but cherished in the memories we hold close.
