November 9, 1936 — February 22, 2025

James A. Schmidlin, age 88, departed this life on February 22, 2025, leaving behind a cherished legacy of love and dedication. Born on November 9, 1936, in Rochester, New York, he was the beloved son of the late Albert H. and Loretta G. Schmidlin (nee Berwind).

Jim shared a profound bond with his late wife, Louise Geier, who preceded him in death in 2018. Together, they cultivated a family that has flourished in the values of kindness and strength. He is survived by his devoted children: Tracy (David) Phipps, David (Leslie) Schmidlin, Larry Schmidlin, and Luanne (Craig) Niece. His legacy continues through his adoring grandchildren Ryan (Whitney) Phipps, Brooke (Catalin) Panov, Summer (Kris) Karady, Cody Schmidlin, and Andrew Niece, as well as his great-grandchildren Rhett, Raelynn, Ruston, Dean, and Clayton.

He was preceded in death by his son, Terry Schmidlin, whose memory remains a part of the family's enduring love.

Jim was a veteran in the United States Navy. He then dedicated 34 years of his life to the Eastman Kodak Company, where he made lasting contributions to his profession. Following his retirement, he continued his commitment to service by assisting others with their taxes at H&R Block for another 17 years.

In his youth, Jim was passionate about gymnastics and diving, the fruits of his dedication celebrated with numerous medals and trophies. He also reveled in the joys of camping. His adventurous spirit thrived in his love of travel, the art of woodworking, and the enjoyment of craft beer. A lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus, he remained actively engaged in his community, embodying the principles of charity and fellowship.
