James Edward Smith , 92 of Monroe, passed away on July 3, 2022, with his family by his side. Born to Leslie and Velma Ann (nee Lyons) Smith on December 20, 1929, in Cincinnati, Ohio.
James had a love for Big Band music and playing his Trumpet. He was in the Five Steps to Rhythm band for more than 60 years and spent his more recent years playing for the Monday Night Big Band. A passionate and well accomplished musician is how his family and friends would describe him. Dad retired from C.J. Krehbiel where he worked as a lithographer
James was a family man. He always put his children and grandchildren first. He enjoyed taking his son Michael to Kings Island and even worked with him at the local McDonald’s for almost ten years. He was a devoted father.
Preceded in death by his parents Leslie and Velma Smith, wife, Marion Eileen Smith, grandson, Tyler Hayman and two siblings, Betty Tracey, and Donald Smith.
James is survived by his five children, David (Marcia) Smith, Rhonda Hayman, Sharon (Lucian) Smith, Jeff Smith, and Michael Smith, six grandchildren, Eric (Shelley) Smith, Edward Lee (Melisa) Keller, Christina Kelly, Kendrick Hayman, Kevin Smith, and Keith Smith, six great grandchildren, Danielle Smith, Jacob Young, Dusty Young, Haley Smith, Kevin James Smith, and Mia Tyler Keller, four siblings, Carolyn Taylor, Evelyn Schwartz, Dorothy Payer, Marilyn Henry and two great great grandchildren, Chloe, and Camden Young.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 12 th from 11:00am-1:00pm with a funeral service at 1:00pm all at Mueller Funeral Home, 6791 Tylersville Road, Mason, OH 45040. Interment to follow in Landmark Memorial Gardens.
