James A. Whitcomb

December 20, 1943 — December 27, 2024

James A. Whitcomb, affectionately known as Jim, peacefully departed this world on December 27, 2024, at the age of 81. Born on December 20, 1943, to Robert and Lavona (nee Deardorff) Whitcomb, Jim lived a life filled with love and devotion.

Jim leaves behind his beloved wife, Sherry, whose companionship was a source of joy throughout their years together. He is also survived by his cherished children, Jon (Sara) Whitcomb and Angela (Mike) Cacace, who will forever carry his memory in their hearts. His legacy continues through his beloved grandchildren: Michael, Rowan, Chole, Asher, Olivia, Emily, and Guerin, along with his precious great-granddaughter, Maggie. Jim is also remembered fondly by his niece, Allison (Brian) Jacowitz, and great-nephew, Alex.

Preceding him in death was his dear sister, Kathy Fortenberry, who remains in the hearts of those who loved her.

Jim was a man of many talents; he found joy in leather crafting and woodworking, hobbies that showcased his creativity and craftsmanship. His passion for cooking, especially grilling, was celebrated by family and friends alike—his steaks earned him the title of grill master, while the homemade pizzas he crafted became family favorites.

Above all, Jim loved his lord and savior. Jim was a devoted family man, relishing every moment spent with his loved ones. Whether it was a quiet evening or a festive gathering, he brought happiness to those around him.

A private graveside service will honor Jim’s life, as his family reflects on the beautiful memories and the love he shared. Though he will be deeply missed, Jim's spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
