Jay V. Mauger

Jay V. Mauger , 67, passed away on Tuesday, September 17, 2024.

Born in Columbus, Ohio, on October 15, 1956, Jay was the son of Harry and Patty Jo Mauger. He attended Watkins Memorial High School before attending The Ohio State University.

In 2006, Jay met his wife Sofie while playing indoor soccer, and they married on October 8, 2020. He is survived by his wife Sofie (née Svensson), son Colton Mauger, daughter Amanda Cappa, and granddaughter Jayden Mauger. He is also remembered by his brother Jud Mauger, sister Kelly DeHart, sister-in-law Sherri Mauger, and many extended relatives and friends. Jay was preceded in death by his parents, brother Mat Mauger, and brother-in-law Bruce DeHart.

Jay was an Eagle Scout, achieving this honor at a young age alongside his twin brother and continued on to become a member of the Masonic Lodge. He enjoyed a successful career as a construction manager, specializing in building Chipotle restaurants. Earlier in his career, he constructed roller coasters and museums around the world, many of which continue to operate.

Jay was passionate about fitness and even had his own home gym, which was just one of the many home projects he and his wife worked on together. He was a man of many talents, holding both a pilot and real estate license earlier in his career. In addition to his many interests, Jay was a devoted fan of Ohio State sports, enjoyed playing his guitar, and, later in life, taking his motorcycle out for a ride. Jay adored his pets, so much so that several of his tattoos included portraits of his two dogs, Bella and Rug, and cat, Jack.

Above all, Jay cherished spending time with family and friends. He was a gifted writer and storyteller and delighted everyone with his humorous songs. He was known for his quick wit and love of jokes.

A memorial service will be held at Mueller Funeral Home (6791 Tylersville Road, Mason, OH 45040) on Thursday, September 26, 2024, from 3:00 PM until the service at 5:00 PM, followed by a reception.  A Celebration of Life for Jay will be held in Pataskala, OH at a later date, please check back for further details.
