Jeffrey Scott Gilton , 64 of Lebanon, passed away on June 5, 2023. Born to Robert Frederick and Winifred Ann (nee Carroll) Gilton on July 9, 1958, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
Don’t panic. Jeff has a towel.
Jeff spent 43 years of what he would call “having fun” at GE as a software engineer and Designated Engineering Representative (DER). He enjoyed working, being around people and meeting new people. He loved getting out of the house, whether for dinner or a ball game. He digged 60s-70s genre concerts (where he scored kick-butt seating in his wheel chair.) He had the most uplifting, positive, and vibrant personality with a “we will get through it” attitude even while battling a genetic condition that eventually caused him to lose his ability to control all but a few muscles in his body.
Jeff was a mentor to many people, helped several careers grow and inspired everyone who knew him. He was always available to those who needed him. When people signed on in the morning, they looked for his green “available” light because they always knew he’d be there to talk.
When he was young, he and his father built remote-control airplanes that they enjoyed flying around Armco Park. They also rebuilt a 1969 Camaro together, which became one of Jeff’s treasured possessions. He continued to be close to his mother from whom he said he inherited his drive to tackle all adversities, especially those that came with his Selenon-1 genetic condition.
He always said he got his wife, Jess, at the GE store…well…they met in the people with disabilities group at GE and enriched each other for 10 years. She helped save his life by coordinating his care when he became sick on their honeymoon cruise and continued to be a rock for him throughout their marriage. Their song was “Just the Two of Us” by Bill Withers, and together, they handled all the challenges that came to them.
Preceded by his father Robert Gilton and sister Amy Gilton.
Jeff is survived by his beloved wife, Jessica (nee Schear) Gilton, mother, Winifred Gilton, two siblings, Dan (Lisa) Gilton and Becky Gilton, good friend, Matt Pfenninger and his fur family, Mattie, Grizzley, Alfred, Edgar, and Newton.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, June 15th from 4:00-7:00pm at Mueller Funeral Home, 6791 Tylersville Road, Mason, OH 45040.
