Jennie Shaaron Wedig

April 2, 1938 — September 2, 2023

Jennie Shaaron "Roni" Wedig (nee Yohanna), of Loveland, Ohio, passed away Saturday, September 2, 2023, at the age of 85.  She was born in Chicago, Illinois and lived in Yonkers, New York before joining the United States Air Force (USAF).

While serving as a medic at Travis Air Force Base in California, Roni met the love of her life, Ray D. Wedig.  The couple married while they were both active-duty airmen in the United States Air Force.  Roni served for several years, and her husband served 32 years of active-duty service before retiring.  Roni was made for military life and created a home that was filled with love and laughter for all who entered.  The dinner table always had space for friends within the Wedig household.  Sixty-four years of marriage provided many picnics, vacations, travel, and cherished memories.

A woman of very strong faith, Roni and her husband, Ray, instilled their beliefs in their children.  Roni’s faith and strong fortitude supported her as she maintained the family home for their children while Ray served many overseas deployments during his miliary career.  Roni was also instrumental in managing their cross-country and overseas moves to the 17 military assignments Ray served during more than three decades of service.  Her dedication and contributions to the military and civilian communities was recognized by a personal letter from the White House signed by President George H.W. Bush in 1989.

Both her husband’s lifetime masonic affiliation and her lifetime affiliation with the Ida Chapter of Eastern Star also played a large part in raising their family.

Roni is survived by: husband, Ray D. Wedig; children, Daphne Wedig-Griffis, John (Azalea) Wedig, Gillian (Michael) Casstevens, and Jennifer (Steve) Sparks; grandchildren, Benjamin Griffis, Sebastian (Diane) Wedig, Gena (Ben) O'Bryan, Dana Garmany, Justin Sparks, Elijah Sparks, and John Sparks; great-grandson, Colton Gray; sister, Michele Yohanna; and many loving family members and friends.

Services will be held privately by the family.
