Jerene Lou Rosa

June 6, 1935 — February 19, 2022

Jerene Lou Rosa (nee Poto), formerly of Wakeman, passed away peacefully Saturday, February 19, 2022 at the age of 86. She was born Thursday, June 6, 1935 in Brookfield, Ohio to George Leroy and Hazel Irene (nee Meeker) Poto.

Born with a love of nature and plants, Jerry received her bachelors degree from Ohio State University in Horticulture. While studying there, she met the love of her life, Paul J. Rosa. The two were married in 1957. Jerry was employed at Barnes Roses until John was born in 1959. She was a homemaker until John, Beth (1960), and Ruth (1963) were in high school. Jerry then joined Paul working at Lockes Garden Center in Oberlin, retiring in 2007.

As an active member of Birmingham United Methodist Church since being married there in 1957, Jerry enjoyed her time of fellowship. She attended weekly services in addition to her Bible Study and was the first one willing to volunteer for any projects needing assistance. She sang in the church choir, taught Sunday school, and was on several different church leadership committees over the years.

In September of 2021, she moved to West Chester, Ohio and resided in an assisted living facility 5 minutes from John's house until she passed away.

She loved her flower garden, reading, taking walks, and spending time with her grandchildren. She also enjoyed spending time with her children's pets: Louie (Beth), Maya (Ruth), and Mia (John)

Paul's siblings Ruth Schurr, Elizabeth Herbst, and Charles Rosa felt that Jerry was another sister as opposed to an in-law. That side of the family engaged in many activities over the years including holidays and the annual summer Rosa family reunion.

Jerene Lou will be forever loved and cherished by all those that knew her.

Jerene was preceded in death by: parents, George L. and Hazel I. Poto; husband, Paul J. Rosa; and a brother, Kenneth Poto.

Jerene is survived by: son, John (Julie) Rosa; daughters, Beth (Jack) Gray and Ruth (Mike) Wiegand; grandchildren, Christy Rosa, Claire Gray, Emily Wiegand, and Joey Wiegand; sister-in-law, Jeanie Poto; and many loving family members and friends.
