Jerome E. "Jerry" Ruthman, of West Chester, Ohio, passed away peacefully Thursday, October 1, 2020 at the age of 85 in the comfort of his home. He was born Wednesday, June 5, 1935 in Cincinnati, Ohio to Alois H. and Catherine R. (nee Geis) Ruthman.

With an engineering mind, Jerry earned his BSME from the University of Notre Dame in 1957. That very same year, he married his best-friend and life-long sweetheart, Sylvia Ruiz. What had begun as a blind-date for the Military Ball, turned into a four year courtship. The couple wrote letters back and forth for three years as Sylvia had returned back to New Mexico. The two were wed on June 8, 1957 in Sacred Heart Cathedral in Gallup, New Mexico. As a Pilot in the Air Force, Jerry and Sylvia had the unique opportunity to live in Japan and Hawaii. Following his discharge as a Captain, Jerry rejoined efforts with his oldest brother, Thomas, in operating Ruthman Machinery Company.

Jerry never lost his love of aviation and enjoyed his glider. When he wasn't in the air with the birds and clouds, you could find Jerry on the green driving and putting his way around the golf course. Intent on keeping his mind active, Jerry also had a passion to read.

Jerry will forever be cherished by those that knew and loved him.

Jerry was preceded in death by: parents, Alois and Catherine Ruthman; and a daughter, Kathy Neff.

Jerry is survived by: his loving wife of 63 years, Sylvia Ruthman; children, Jerome Gregory (Laure Quinlivan) Ruthman, Lisa (Steve) Patterson, Natalie (David) Baker, and Eric (Erika) Ruthman; son-in-law, Dr. William Neff; grandchildren, Quinn Ruthman, Larkin Seifert, Ryan Patterson, Sarah Patterson, Nicholas Patterson, Alex Neff, Connor Neff, Adam Neff, Kristopher Baker, Madeline Baker, Tess Baker, and SSG Dominick Ruthman; siblings, Thomas (Audrey) Ruthman, Kay (Raymond) Mazza, Anita (Don) Gadbury, and Jim (Carol) Ruthman; and many loving family members and friends.
