Joan Freeman

Joan Buchanan Freeman (nee: Saunderson), 98 of Liberty Township, passed away on Tuesday, November 3, 2020. Born to Walter and Gladys Lillian (nee Allen) Saunderson on March 5, 1922 in Nottingham, England.

J oan was married in 1946 to an American soldier shortly before coming to America as a war bride on the Queen Mary. She was very proud when she became a naturalized citizen of the United States on September 2, 1966.

Joan worked in Banking for most of her adult life. She was a head bookkeeper and worked in the foreign currency department for many years. She was an avid reader, enjoyed cross stitch, knitting, and quilting. Joan had a love for all animals, but her dogs were very special to her.

Preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Gladys Saunderson and her husband Harry E. Freeman.

Joan is survived by her two children, Gerald B. Atkinson and Susan (Phil) McCabe, four grandchildren, Jennifer Atkinson, Alison Atkinson, Matthew (Kristen) McCabe and Kelsey (Matthew) McManus, three great-grandchildren, Jacob, Jackson and Carter McCabe and one cousin in England, Marion Lovell.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, November 12th from 10:00AM-11:00AM with a memorial service to follow at 11:00AM all at Tri-County Baptist Church, 8195 Beckett Road, West Chester, Ohio 45069. Memorial donations may be made in Joan’s name to Pathway to Hope Pregnancy Care Center. Masks are required and social distancing will be observed for services.
