John S. Thaller

April 17, 1951 — February 19, 2020

John S. Thaller, of West Chester, Ohio, lost an 18 month battle with glioblastoma Wednesday, February 19, 2020, at the age of 68.  He was born Tuesday, April 17, 1951 in Newark, New Jersey to John and Frances (nee Zadylak) Thaller.
Growing up in Bellville, New Jersey, John graduated with honors from the Essex Catholic High School in 1969.  Four years later, he received his BSCE from Newark College of Engineering.  1973 proved to be a great year as John married his high school sweetheart, Diane L. Dickler, on Saturday, June 23rd at Holy Name Catholic Church in New Jersey.  John and Diane then moved to Tunkhannock, Pennsylvania where John began his brilliant career with Proctor & Gamble.  John and Diane were blessed with two wonderful daughters, Diane and Joelle, that were their pride and joy.  John's career provided the family the opportunity to live in several places around the world, eventually settling them at headquarters in Cincinnati, Ohio.  With a home filled with love and laughter, they welcomed five grandchildren to the tribe.
An avid Barnegat Bay sailor, John frequently visited the Chesapeake and made offshore passages between the Carolinas and New England.  His love of the outdoors began as a young man earning his eagle scout.  If he wasn't on the water, he was on the green with a golf club in hand.  John had an appreciation for nature and a natural talent for capturing its beauty in pictures.  Born with the ability to swing a hammer, John was head of construction for Habitat for Humanity for several years.
John's memory will forever live in hearts of those that love him.
John was preceded in death by: parents, John and Frances Thaller; and a brother-in-law, Michael Lapinski, MD.
John is survived by: his wife of 46 years, Diane L. Thaller; daughters, Diane (Sarah) Aldrich and Joelle (Dave) Gwinner; grandchildren, Andrew Aldrich, Julia Aldrich, Madeline Aldrich, David Gwinner and Megan Gwinner; sister, Frances June Lapinski, MD; brother, Gary Thaller; brother-in-law, Ray (Jane) Dickler; nieces and nephews; many loving family members and close friends.
