With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Joseph Edward Simmons, known to those who loved him as “Joe.” Born in Covington, Kentucky, on March 29, 1959, Joe lived a life filled with curiosity, dedication, and quiet strength until his peaceful passing on March 14, 2025, at his home in West Chester, Ohio, surrounded by family.
A talented computer programmer, Joe built a career dedicated to crafting reliable systems for organizations such as the Disabled American Veterans, LexisNexis, and ATOS. His work was more than a job—it was a lifelong pursuit of problem-solving and precision. Each year, without fail, he volunteered his time to maintain critical systems during daylight savings time, a testament to his reliability and devotion to his craft. Even just two weeks before his passing, he remained committed to the work he loved.
The greatest chapter of Joe’s life began on July 12, 2000, when he married his wife, Viktoriya “Vika” (née Feldman) Simmons, aboard the B&B Riverboat. Together, they built a life full of love, respect, and partnership, navigating life’s adventures side by side.
Joe was a man of quiet wisdom, an avid listener who found joy in thoughtful conversation. He had a dry sense of humor, a deep appreciation for science and technology, and a lifelong passion for sci-fi stories that sparked his imagination. Whether watching Star Wars, Star Trek, or Starship Troopers, he found joy in exploring the wonders of the universe, both real and fictional.
Joe is survived by his beloved wife, Viktoriya; his sons, Andrey (Katherine) and Michael; and his loyal dog, Apollo “Muttley.” He is now reunited with his parents, Paul and Joanne Alice (née Kampsen) Simmons, who welcomed him home with open arms.
A gathering to celebrate Joe’s life will be held at Mueller Funeral Home in Mason, Ohio, on March 20, 2025. Friends and family are invited to visit beginning at 1:00 PM, with a time for shared memories and reflection at 2:00 PM.
As we say goodbye, we remember the way Joe enriched our lives with his kindness, intellect, and quiet humor. Though he is no longer with us, his memory lives on in the hearts of those who loved him, as constant as the stars in the night sky.
