Judith Schmeling

October 22, 1936 — December 25, 2021

Judith Jeanne Schmeling, 85 of Mason, passed away on December 25, 2021. Born to Earl and Charlotte (nee Barron) Adams on October 22, 1936, in Fort Wayne, Indiana.

Judith grew up in Ft. Wayne, Indiana, graduated from Rollins College, Winter Park, FL, majoring in English, and earned a master’s degree in English at Ball State Univ., Muncie, Indiana. She taught Jr. High and High School English and French and worked in non-profit administration with the Greater Cincinnati Foundation.

A lover of the world around her, she never failed to notice the “little things,” delighting in the garden, nature, and all of God’s creation. She loved the church and served in many ways, often quietly urging the church to expand its welcome and to do justice. She marched for LGBT rights and volunteered for the League of Women’s Voters. A teacher at heart, she encouraged her children to read, research, and expand their horizons. She was a creative, thoughtful, and compassionate participant in many activities, often taking care to notice the unique individuality of those she met.

Preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Charlotte Adams, her first husband, Eugene Schmeling and brother, Keith Adams.

Judith is survived by her husband, Louis Arnette, three children, Bradley (Darin Easler) Schmeling, Angie (Dan) Seiller, Andrew (Julie Baker) Schmeling, three grandchildren, Madeline Seiller, Olivia Seiller and Leo Schmeling, sister-in-law, Joyce Adams, three stepchildren, Greg Alan (Cynthia) Arnette, Scott C. (Trude) Arnette, and Todd C. Arnette, eight step grandchildren and two step great grandchildren.
