Kathleen Stevens

December 1, 1935 — October 31, 2024

Montgomery

Kathleen (Kathy) Mary Stevens passed away peacefully on October 31, 2024, in Montgomery, Ohio. She was born on December 1, 1935, and raised in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. After graduating from the Royal Jubilee School of Nursing, she worked in the Emergency Room at the Royal Jubilee Hospital in Victoria, the hospital where she was born, and later transferred to another hospital in Kingston, Ontario.

Soon after starting her career, Kathleen and two of her close nursing friends embarked on a four-month European vacation. She returned on a transatlantic trip from Southampton, England to New York City where she met the love of her life of almost 65 years, David Christopher Stevens, on the RMS Queen Mary, the legendary British ocean liner.

After their brief encounter crossing the Atlantic Ocean, David and Kathleen wrote daily letters for several months. David then secured a new job in Fresno, California, to be closer to Kathleen. They married and settled in Fresno to start their new life. Over the years, Kathleen and David had three children and lived in many places, following David's rapid career growth. The growing family lived in Fresno, CA, Los Angeles, CA, Morristown, NJ, Lombard, IL, Weston, CT, Wheaton IL, Blue Ash, OH and Atlanta, GA. After the children were grown, Kathleen and David lived in Chesterfield, MO and Montgomery, OH.

With every new city, Kathleen faithfully coordinated the moves, decorated the new homes, and always immersed herself and her family in the new communities.

Kathleen was an extremely loyal friend who met many lifelong friends at an early age. She kept strong relationships from all stages of her life by making a point of having regular conversations and frequent visits. She also loved meeting new people and enjoyed volunteering in her children’s schools, local hospitals, and the Episcopal church. She participated in various garden clubs, antique and international groups and multiple women’s clubs. After her children were grown, she became a successful tax advisor at H&R Block, leveraging her love of problem-solving and meeting new people. But taking care of family and home was Kathleen's highest priority. She loved decorating, sewing, gardening, baking and keeping her home in immaculate shape.

Kathleen and David were avid travelers who enjoyed many trips across the world, which instilled a love of travel in their children and grandchildren. She always looked forward to the annual Stevens Family Beach trip, usually to Hilton Head Island, SC, which brought together all of their children and grandchildren.

Kathleen is preceded in death by her mother, Mary Eunice Stobart, father, John Gordon Stobart, brother, Gordon Stobart, and many other friends and family. She is survived by her husband, David Stevens, her daughters Anne Johnson (Darrell) and Pam Lippitt (Robert), and son Mark Stevens (Tricia); grandchildren Christopher, Alexandra and Erik Johnson, Cason and Emily Lippitt, and Jack and Caroline Stevens.
