Lavina June Stinson, age 93 of Mason Ohio, formerly of Ligonier Pennsylvania, peacefully passed away on September 29, 2022 to join her beloved husband, Glenn. Lavina was born to the late Ross Granger and Lena Lester Granger on February 14, 1929 in St. Louis Missouri.

Lavina was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker who enjoyed preparing meals for her family at family gatherings. Her life centered around her late husband Glenn, married on May 7, 1946, and their four sons and their wives, children and grandchildren.

It was love at first sight for our dad when he saw mom for the first time. He was being carried off the Ryan Cowboys High School football field when he saw mom and said to her and a friend…when are you going to introduce me to the pretty new girl.

Our beautiful sweet mother went home to be with her Savior Jesus. She was a loving, strong and feisty woman who loved her family more than anything on earth. She was a amazing example of a devout Christian.

Our mother showered her boys and extended family with so much love, it is impossible to adequately express how grateful we are to her for the countless things she did for our family and how much we love her in return.

She was married to our father for almost 70 years and lived a long, happy, fulfilling life, living and traveling all over the United States and other parts of the world including London, Paris, Rome, Normandy, Russia and China. During their lifetime together, they lived in 30 different cities including the states of Oklahoma, Illinois, Missouri, Pennsylvania, Florida, Kentucky and California.

Earlier in life, Mom grew up in the church since her father was a pastor and evangelist. She learned to sing in a beautiful soprano voice with her father, play the clarinet and the piano, even playing beloved old hymns the last weeks of her life.

She was active in local organizations such as the Taxpayers of Allegheny County, the League of Women Voters, when living in Bethel Park, Pennsylvania. She also volunteered for five years to help families with patients in the cardiac care unit at St Clare Hospital in Pennsylvania. Both mom and dad were involved in a local, state and national politics for most of their lives.

Mom was an avid sports fan and participant. Early in her life she played softball and basketball. She was always at her son’s baseball, basketball, hockey, and soccer games. She became a good golfer partly because it was a family outing. Later she played with her friends in a lady’s golf league. Because her dad and grandfather George were diehard St. Louis Cardinals fans, she was too. Later she became a fan of the Chicago Cubs, Pittsburgh Pirates and Steelers.

Our family always had pets because Mom was an animal lover. We always had at least one dog and later in life Mom and Dad had two dogs at a time. In recent years she loved caring for her cats, her beloved Boots and Oscar.

Her son George, his wife Denise and their niece Emily Weller cared for Mom in recent years. The family gives them and everyone else who cared for Mom our greatest and warmest gratitude.

Survivors include her four sons: Glenn Stinson Jr, Jefferson City Missouri, Gregory (Brenda), Culver City California, George (Denise), Mason, Ohio, Geoff (Laurie), Millersport, Ohio and her sister Florence “Cookie” Lyss, Sulphur Springs, Texas; Five grandchildren: Chris (Shannon) Rackers, Bradley (Jennifer) Stinson, Rachel (Wesley) Willis, Ashley Stinson and Alex Stinson; Five great-grandchildren: Gabriella, Caleb, Grayson, William and Alden.

She was preceded in death by her husband Glenn, her parents, a brother Alvin, sisters Betty and Rowena, and daughter in law Margaret “Corky” Rackers.
