Lawanda M Rodgers (nee Tyler), passed away peacefully December 1, 2020 at the age of 92. Her family recently celebrated her birthday with a "card shower" which resulted in 104 birthday cards. Lawanda was amazed at the outpouring of love to celebrate her big day.
Lawanda was born on November 6, 1928 in Big Cabin, Oklahoma to Frank Tyler and Edna (nee Stanislaus) Tyler. At the young age of 13, Lawanda's father passed away. She married the love of her life, Raymond L. Rodgers, on April 14, 1948. Together, they raised four children in a home filled with love and laughter. Sadly, he preceded her in death on January 21, 1981.
Lawanda was a devoted fan of the Cincinnati Reds Baseball. In the early 1970's, she took: her mother, Edna; sister, Wilma; nephew, Wayne; and daughter, Dorothy to as many games as possible. She only missed three opening day games since around 1976. Lawanda and Dorothy got to experience the All-Star game and activities in 2015.
Lawanda was a devoted member of the Eastern Star and just received her 50 year pin. She traveled to many different lodges for as long as she was able. Lawanda really enjoyed dining out with the groups. In addition, she was a member of the Brecon United Methodist Church where she enjoyed the women and men's group on Tuesday's, rarely missing a meeting.
Lawanda was blessed with many wonderful family members and friends. She truly enjoyed life caring for others, putting others first and making them happy. She will forever be cherished by those that knew and loved her.
Lawanda was also preceded in death by: father, Frank Tyler; mother, Edna Wiseman; step-father, Loran Wiseman; husband, Raymond Lee Rodgers; son, Vernon L. Rodgers; grandsons, Rodney L. Rodgers, Joey A. Steffen, and Steve Pervis; and a sister, Wilma Tyler Wright;
Lawanda is survived by: daughters, Rawanda Sue (Glenn) Steffen, Rose Marie (Ron) Pervis, and Dorothy Mae Rodgers; grandchildren, Glenda (Monte) Smith, Randy L. Rodgers, Sharon (Kris) Harack; great-grandchildren, Kaylle Rodgers, AJ Smith, Alex Rodgers, Jorden Smith, Alex Smith, and Bethany Rodgers.
Visitation will be Monday, December 7, 2020 from 11:00 AM until the Eastern Star Service at 12:45 PM at Mueller Funeral Home, 6791 Tylersville Road, Mason, Ohio 45040. The State of Ohio requires masks to be worn and social distancing guidelines to be followed. Funeral Service will begin Monday at 1:00 PM with Pastor John H. Dean officiating. Seating is limited due to social distancing requirements.
Memorial donations may be directed to Hospice of Cincinnati to to Brecon United Methodist Church.
