Lillian D'Souza

July 31, 1926 — September 1, 2023

Lillian (Lily) E., (nee Martis) D'Souza , born July 31, 1926 in Mangalore, India. Beloved wife of the late Bernard (Benna) for 71 years, passed away on Friday, September 1, 2023. Preceded in death by her parents, Anthony & Flora Martis and her beloved late 7 siblings, Alfie, James, Louise Bai (Ambrose), Henry (Julie), Ethel, Effie (Felix), Norbie, and her beloved late pets, Lucky (who she brought all the way from India) and Juneau. Loving Mother of Margie, Blanche (Neal), late infant daughter, Selma, Selma (Babila) and her beloved Simba. Grandmother to the late Eva Bernacchi (Chris), Derek & Kirk Sunderman and Trevor Ames and 5 great grandchildren. Missed by a wide circle of friends who considered her and her husband as family.

Lily was known for her feistiness, independence, warm sweet smile, contagious laugh, social nature, love of travel, legendary very spicy cooking, gardening and hard work ethic. She loved chatting and joking with her friends. She enjoyed social gatherings with relatives and her daughter, Selma's friends, who in turn were always welcoming both her and her husband. She loved politics and was always in the thick of it with her strong opinions.

The family would like to thank her Doctors, PTs, OTs, and caregivers, especially Ryann, who considered her a bonus grandparent (she always wanted her to eat) and mentioned that she was a strong, resilient and wonderful lady with such an infectious smile. Maryna, who called her Mama and would force her to eat. Mary Ann who brought her the Holy Eucharist.

The D'Souza family would also like to thank all our family and friends who were so kind and generous to our parents over the years by welcoming them into their homes. We are truly blessed to have you in our lives.

She will be deeply missed by her family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude's hospital or the SPCA.
