Lois E. Davis

February 15, 1932 — September 10, 2024

Lois Davis (née Lohman) passed into New Life on September 10, 2024, at the age of 92. She was born on February 15, 1932, in Cincinnati, Ohio, to Charles and Theresa (née Wenning) Lohman. Lois was the younger sister of her brother, Charles "Charlie", whom she looked up to and admired. They grew up together in the Price Hill neighborhood on the west side of Cincinnati.

Following her graduation from Seton High School, Lois enjoyed her single life working in downtown Cincinnati as a secretary, taking shorthand and performing other administrative duties. She was so proud to earn $25 per week! Lois met the love of her life, James "Jim" Davis, after he returned from the Korean War. They were introduced by friends while out socializing. The couple married in February 1960 and celebrated 58 years together before Jim's passing in January 2019.

Jim and Lois built their first house together on Rocker Drive, where they raised their four children: Greg, Mark, Paul, and Gina. They lived among very special neighbors, many of whom became lifelong, dear friends. Lois took great pride in being a wife, mother, and homemaker. She was a devoted mother who was involved in many of her children's activities, such as Boy Scouts, dance, and attending numerous baseball and football games. She also volunteered at St. Ann's School for many years while her children were enrolled there.

Sharing her gift of service extended beyond her family and into her community. During the Cincinnati Bicentennial Year in 1988, Lois was recognized as one of the special volunteers of the Greater Cincinnati Community. She volunteered in many capacities at St. Ann's Church, such as preparing weekly petitions, reading scripture, assisting with communion, and creating/participating in the bereavement committee, as well as organizing funeral plans. Lois was a dedicated, faith-filled servant of the Lord. She was equally committed to caring for her family. As her parents and in-laws aged, Lois was a kind and dutiful caretaker to them.

Sadly, tragedy struck the Davis family in 1979 when they lost their beloved son and brother, Greg, in an accident at Red River Gorge. Lois did not allow her grief to overcome her. She leaned into her faith and let God strengthen and comfort her to the extent that she was able to help others with similar losses through their grief. Lois hosted a Bereaved Mothers' Support Group in her home for several years. Many families found great peace and comfort from her tender and compassionate leadership. And if you knew Lois well, you know what the sight of a butterfly meant to her!

Once their children were grown, Lois and Jim enjoyed their retirement by playing golf, traveling on golf trips, visiting family, and following Cincinnati sports teams. Lois was a dedicated Reds fan, always holding out hope for a big win! They cherished being grandparents to AJ, Christina, Anthony, Ally, Heather, and Eric, and attended many of their sporting events as well. Lois loved the many trips she took with her sister-in-law, cousins, and nieces, all of whom she adored.

Lois held her family in the highest regard. She was so proud of everything her children and grandchildren accomplished. One of her greatest joys was being surrounded by her family on special occasions, especially at Christmas time. She was the perfect hostess, tending to everyone's needs. She extended this kind of care all the way to the end by preparing for her eternal, final destiny. She wanted to spare her children the burden of making tough decisions. That's what love does!

It is bittersweet to say goodbye to someone so kind, graceful, caring, and loving, yet comforting to know that she left a living legacy in her children, grandchildren, and future generations. There will always be a part of her that lives on. Lois's last few words before she departed were a promise to send a butterfly-specifically, a blue and yellow one! Let's look forward to that!

Lois was preceded in death by: parents, Charles and Theresa Lohman; husband, James "Jim" Davis; son, Greg Davis; and brother, Charles "Charlie" Lohman.

Lois is survived by: children, Mark (Brenda Lucas) Davis, Paul (Lisa) Davis, and Gina (Adonis) Vergara; grandchildren, AJ (Lauren) Vergara, Christina Vergara, Anthony Vergara, Allison Davis, Heather Davis, and Eric Davis; and many loving nieces, nephews and friends.
