Marion Ann Coulon Woniger, 92, of West Chester, passed away on Friday, July 14th, 2023. She was born in Lafitte, Louisiana on July 31st, 1930 to loving Cajun parents Whitney A. and Sophie (Perrin) Coulon.
A true Cajun Queen, she grew up in Algiers, Louisiana. Her father Whitney supported the family as the Algiers ferry boat captain in New Orleans. She absolutely loved being on the water and spending time on bayou Barataria with her family. Marion was a graduate of Behrman High School and attended LSU, which solidified her lifelong support for the Tigers. She moved to one more southern city, Atlanta, before she made the permanent move to Cincinnati in 1970. In Cincinnati, she became a fan of the Reds and Bengals but continued her love of LSU and rarely missed a football game on TV.
Marion worked as a florist, making beautiful and creative arrangements that brightened many people’s days. But by far, her favorite jobs were being a wife, mother and grandmother. She loved her family more than anything, and would confidently say that the happiest day of her life was the day she married her husband, Edmund Sr. Marion adored her grandkids and was a supporter and their biggest cheerleader in all their endeavors.
Marion is remembered fondly as an incredibly kind and loving person. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister. Her warmth and friendliness meant she never met a stranger. She is loved dearly, and will be greatly missed.
Marion was preceded in death by her parents, Whitney and Sophie; her husband, Edmund Augustus Woniger Sr.; her sister Sr. Vivian Coulon, and brothers Whitney Coulon Jr., Lee Coulon and Melvin Coulon.
Marion is survived by her children, Edmund Woniger Jr. (Michele), Phil Woniger (Betsy), and Melissa Hollstegge (Denny); her grandchildren Brandon Woniger (Laura), Brittany Adams (Ryan), Jacklyn Ady (Justin), Jason Woniger, Jackson Hollstegge and Cameron Hollstegge; and her great-grandchildren Ethan Woniger, Isabelle and Nolan Adams.
In lieu of flowers please make donations to the Cincinnati Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired. (cincyblind.org)
