Mark Allen Frederiksen will be remembered as a loving husband, father, son, brother and friend. After a long and well-fought battle with Ewing Sarcoma, he passed peacefully on the morning of January 31, 2024.
Mark was born to Pamela and the late Milton (Fred) Frederiksen on February 3, 1976, in Joliet, Illinois. After graduating high school, Mark enlisted in the US Marine Corps and honorably served his country for five years. Mark concluded his enlistment as a Sergeant with HMX1, serving Former President Bill Clinton. The military supported his love of travel and, upon discharge, Mark continued his passion for exploration and learning by living and working in St. Thomas, USVI. When Mark returned to Illinois, he attended Illinois State University in Bloomington, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in history and met his future wife, Brandy. She shared his passion for adventure and quickly became the love of his life. The couple was married in 2004, in Galena, IL. and moved to Long Island, NY, where Mark attended Stony Brook University and earned his master’s degree in History. It was on Long Island that Mark discovered his life’s work in the construction industry. After their first son Lars was born in 2008, they moved to the Cincinnati area and their family grew in love and laughter with the addition of two more children, Anders and Dagny. Mark worked diligently to build his own residential construction and remodeling company and became the proud owner of Timeless Custom Designs. Mark loved getting lost in the details of a project, finding creative solutions to make his client’s vision and the architects plans a reality. The relationships he cultivated with architects, clients, and employees allowed him to connect with others in meaningful and faith-filled ways.
Besides the joy he derived from his chosen profession, he loved spending time outdoors. Whether he was sport shooting with colleagues, fishing with his children, hiking with the family or simply throwing a ball with his dogs, Mark enjoyed God’s beautiful creation. He was a master at planning vacations, loved hosting events with food and fellowship, and delighted in building lasting memories with his family. He also cherished his time growing in his faith and attending family camp at Gull Lake Ministries year after year.
Mark believed that his greatest achievement was not found in his accomplishments, but in the grace that he received. His love of life and his dedication to serve his family were firmly rooted in Mark’s strong faith in God and unwavering belief in God’s sovereignty. Mark’s faithfulness fueled him with passion towards his goals, comforted him in trying and uncertain times, gathered his loved ones close to his side, and securely guided his heart to follow the work of Jesus.
Mark is survived by Brandy, his wife of 19 years and their children; sons, Lars (15), Anders (13), and daughter, Dagny (11). He is also survived by his mother, Pamela, brother, Brian (Melissa) and sister, Kristen Allison (Barry), as well as nieces Delaney, Darby, Hannah, Joelle and nephew Soren. He was preceded in death and is now reunited in heaven with his father, Milton (Fred) Frederiksen.
