Mary E. Mcguire

Mary E. McGuire, of Chillicothe, Ohio, passed away peacefully, fortified by the Last Sacraments, on Monday, June 5, 2023 (The Feast of Our Lady's Queenship) at the age of 76.  She was born October 12, 1946 in Chillicothe, Ohio to James A. and Catherine (nee Hirsch) Kern.

Mary was a retired nurse at the VA Medical Center in Chillicothe.  She loved mountains, horses, and any sort of wildlife.  She loved to travel and take car rides with no real destination, and she enjoyed exercising her green thumb while experiencing the beautiful colors and fragrances from her flower garden.  However, Mary's true joy and source of courage came from her love of the Mass, Holy Communion, and the Rosary.  She was born and raised a Catholic in the 1940's and 50's, but was never satisfied with changes that occurred after Vatican II.  After prayer and much searching, Mary found her way back to the true faith and Mass at St. Clare in Columbus.  There, she played the organ, and later she and her husband became coordinators for the St. Clares Mission in Chillicothe.  Later, she became a member at St. Gertrude the Great in West Chester.

Mary was preceded in death by: parents, James and Catherine Kern; husband, Loren K. McGuire; and child, Ashley McGuire.

Mary is survived by: children, Maria L. Dutcher, Erika N. (Brett) McKnight, Bishop Charles J. McGuire, and Christopher K. McGuire; grandchildren, Christopher Sabin, Roderic Dutcher, Dominic Dutcher, Chase McKnight, Adam McKnight, Nicholas McKnight, Andrew McKnight, Madalyn McKnight, Olivia McKnight, Arica McGuire, Connor McGuire, Jeffrey McGuire, and Julieann McGuire; brother, James H. (Gloria) Kern; and many loving family members and friends.

Visitation will be Friday, June 9, 2023 beginning at 9:00 AM at St. Gertrude the Great, 4900 Rialto Road, West Chester, Ohio 45069.  Rosary will begin at 11:00 AM with Requiem Mass at 11:25 AM at St. Gertrude the Great.  Immediately following the Requiem Mass, there will be a short luncheon at St. Gertrude the Great.  Interment will be in St. Margaret Cemetery, Chillicothe, Ohio on Friday at 4:30 PM.
