Maxine Gibbons

October 20, 1926 — September 13, 2021

Maxine J. Gibbons passed away on 13 September 2021 peacefully of natural causes. Maxine was preceded in death by her husband Gerald R. Gibbons (2016) and is survived by her two children, five grandchildren, and five great grandchildren. Maxine was born on 20 October 1926 and lived a very full 94 years of life.

In her early life she moved from Michigan to California and back again. It was in Swartz Creek, Michigan where she raised her family, and became known for planning great parties and making friends that would last a lifetime. It was here that she took every type of lesson imaginable from swimming, where she did not like to get her face wet, to cake decorating, and discovering a lifelong love of golf. Maxine and Gerald traveled extensively with their great friend’s Rod and Elvira Smith. California, Las Vegas, Florida, Canada, Italy, Germany, Ireland, Bermuda, Jamaica, and Hawaii. Hawaii being one of her favorites. Maxine had an elegant style about her that she used when setting the holiday dining table, making Christmas Stockings for her Grandchildren or planning the many events while serving on her club committees. She was a two time Breast Cancer Survivor and donated her time to several Breast Cancer Charity Fashion Shows. Her favorite runway experience was in a Flint Michigan event where she was modeling an evening gown and mink wrap. She was instructed to walk on to the runway and then remove the mink wrap and drag it behind her. This was covered by the local television station and was her favorite story to tell. Her charity work with the Jr. Womans Club of Swartz Creek, Michigan,( which she held office of President for two terms), was exemplified in her creation of a weekly storytelling hour for preschoolers, planting flowers and placing flower pots around the town streets and the Hollyberry Ball Charity Event.

Maxine held many secretarial positions. In Michigan at the High School counselor’s office, and the administration office. In Ohio she worked at a realtor’s, accountant and Kroger offices. She love to work outside the home as well as being a homemaker keeping an immaculate house and baking.

After relocating with her family to Mason, Ohio Maxine shifted her focus to family and holidays. Grand Thanksgiving and Christmas celebrations with many relatives travelling from Michigan and staying for several days, created memories that will last a lifetime for her family. Maxine had a personality that always had a spark whether it be a quick witted comment or throwing a potato at Christmas dinner after a rhetorical request, “can you toss me a potato” she always kept people on their toes. Maxine will be deeply missed by her family and all that were privileged enough to know her and her unique charm.
