In 1979, the Michigan Science Teachers Association selected him as Michigan's Outstanding Science Teacher of the Year. For over 20 years he worked with students to present research projects at the National Science Fair competition, many of his student won top awards for their work. Norman personally developed and ran the Lakeview Driver's Education program for almost 40 years.  Many of the students he most profoundly impacted have gone on to careers in education, medicine, engineering and law. He will be missed by all those that had the good fortune of knowing him.
