Panayiota Marinakis

April 7, 1934 — February 21, 2024

Panayiota Marinakis (Titsa) of Cincinnati, Ohio passed away on Wednesday, February 21, 2024, surrounded by her family. She was 89 years old.  Born to James (Dimitrios) and Mary (Marina, née Economou) Chagares on April 7, 1934, in Terre Haute, Indiana, her family moved to Cincinnati where she lived the rest of her life.  She was a graduate of Walnut Hills High School and worked for the Shillito Company in Cincinnati before meeting her husband of 61 years, Stefanos (Steve), and starting her family.

She had a lifelong love of music and greatly enjoyed singing in the Greek Church’s choir in her youth.  She also played the piano and diligently taught the instrument to each of her children.  She enjoyed cooking, embroidery and gardening among other things but most importantly, she loved spending time with her family and sharing the things that interested and brought her joy.

She worked at the Red Fox Grill in downtown Cincinnati, the restaurant that she and her husband started in 1965 and was the smiling face that greeted customers for many decades.  After retiring, she enjoyed spending summers with her husband in Greece, splitting time between the home they built in Kiato and the village of Alea where her husband and both of her parents were born.

Panayiota is preceded in death by her parents, James, and Marina Chagares.

She is survived by her beloved husband of 61 years, Stefanos Marinakis, children, George, Marina and Bill Marinakis, sister Alexandria Manesis and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
