Patricia Ward Scruta (“Patty” to all who knew and loved her), beloved wife, mother, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully at home on December 16th, 2022 at the age of 67. She is survived by her husband of 40 years, Steve Scruta, three children, Tim Scruta (Devin Coulter), Matt Scruta, and Molly Scruta (Max Larson), siblings Charles “Skip” Ward (Eva) and Pam Mallott (Paul), beloved in-laws, nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends, and two family dogs, Cali and Heidi. Patty was preceded in death by her parents, Marilyn and Charles Ward, with whom she is now reunited in heaven. Through her life, love, and friendships, Patty left an indelible mark on this earth; we only wish we could have had her earthside with us for longer.
Patty had an undeniable bright energy that lit up a room and made everyone around her feel loved and seen; she had a deep, abiding love for her family and gave everything she had to ensure they had what they needed and knew that they were loved, always. Patty’s spark touched all who knew her; she was a truly special person with an infectious laugh, brilliant smile, and so much love to give. She loved visiting family and spending time with those she loved most, long mornings spent drinking coffee, her “heart dog” Heidi, attending her kids’ musical concerts (even/especially after they were grown!), and rocking out with the “Bellenistas.” While illness prevented her from attending church in-person at the end of her life, Patty always valued her St. Anne family and treasured the community she and Steve found during their 30+ years in the greater Cincinnati area. Patty was vibrant, bright and brilliant–both in wit and presence–and her love lives on through her family and friends.
In life, Patty loved feeling wrapped in prayer as a member of St. Anne Episcopal church and found much comfort in faith, especially when times were challenging. We ask that you honor Patty through continued prayer and care for others, through finding joy in holding your loved ones extra tight, thoughtful little gifts, gestures, and jokes shared with others, huge smiles and belly laughs, and long walks with your dog.
Patty loved flowers and flower arranging (a talent passed on from her mom), but if you’d like to make a donation in lieu of flowers, please consider contributing in Patty’s name to St. Anne Episcopal Church , Cincinnati Animal CARE or SPCA Cincinnati .
A celebration of life for Patty will be held on Saturday, January 7th at 1pm at St. Anne Episcopal Church (6461 Tylersville Road, West Chester Township, OH 45069), followed by a reception with light refreshments. We ask that you bring all of your good Patty stories and memories to share in fellowship with family and friends; a Zoom link will be provided ahead of the service for those who are unable to travel to be with us in person.
