Rev. Florence J. Beaujon

November 29, 1929 — August 20, 2020

Rev. Florence Jessup Beaujon , age 90, a longtime resident of Monroe, Ohio, and retired minister of Heritage Presbyterian Church, passed away August 20, 2020. Born November 29, 1929 in Jefferson City, Missouri.  Her father, George Penney Jessup, at the time was the project engineer in charge of the construction of Bagnell Dam.  Her mother was Mannie Dealy Jessup.  She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 67 years, Jan “Rudy” Beaujon, her sister Mary McCawley (Tom), Nancy Jessup Underwood (Robert), and her brother George Penney Jessup (Faye).  She is survived by children; Jan “Jack” Beaujon III (Betsy), George Beaujon (Patty), Peter Beaujon, Jim Beaujon, Nancy Beaujon, and Mary Beaujon Kenter (Tom).  She was a cherished grandmother to seven grandchildren, Matthew Beaujon (Sara), Sarah Le (Vince), Megan Beaujon, Ryan Kenter, Christopher Kenter, Christine Beaujon and Danielle Beaujon, as well as four great-grandchildren, Noah Le, Coby Le, Axel Beaujon and Ellery Beaujon.

With her father’s work on construction of various dams, her family moved many times while she was growing up.  She attended Paducah High School while her father was working on the Kentucky Dam.  The family eventually moved to Ithaca, New York where Florence graduated from Ithaca High School and then attended Cornell. She received her Bachelor of Science in Home Economics from Cornell University in 1951.

Florence and Rudy married in June 1951. After a period of time spent in service in the Army, they moved to Cincinnati to raise a family while Rudy worked for Procter & Gamble.  They eventually settled in Finneytown raising their six children and later expanding to include two foster children; Jose Hernandez and Robert Spoonamore.

Florence’s life was spent in Christian service first as parish worker at Northminster Presbyterian Church in Finneytown, Ohio.  She then pursued her calling by attending United Theological Seminary in Dayton, Ohio and Princeton University in New Jersey receiving her Masters of Divinity in 1980.  She was one of the first female Presbyterian ministers in the Presbytery of Cincinnati.  She began her ordained ministry serving several small churches north and east of Cincinnati including Mowrystown, Sardinia, and Somerset Presbyterian churches.  Florence and Rev. Ron Trapp were instrumental in a successful merger of Somerset and Mason Presbyterian Churches into Heritage Presbyterian Church in Mason, Ohio in 1991. After her retirement from Heritage, she continued to serve by assisting at Hopkinsville and Grace Community Churches.

Florence was also active in the community, serving as a volunteer at the Historic Southwest Ohio Heritage Village Museum, where the Somerset church building is now located in the historic village.  She also volunteered her gifts to the work of the National Alliance of Mental Illness (NAMI) of Southwest Ohio.  In her later years she offered her gifts in volunteer activities at Mt. Pleasant Retirement Village in Monroe, Ohio.
