Rita Abbas

Marie Rita (nee Stubbemann) Abbas , 103 of West Chester Township passed away peacefully on October 6, 2023. Born to Fred and Mary Elizabeth (nee Huelsman) Stubbemann on September 2, 1920, in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Rita worked her entire life, she was dedicated, a go getter and enjoyed spending time with new people. She worked at several places, which included General Electric, The Welcome Center on 71 and devoted countless hours to St John the Evangelist Church. She volunteered on parish council, serviced communion to those who could not walk up to receive it and taught the baptism classes for years.

Rita was awesome. She had a contagious smile, a great sense of humor and was a wonderful spirit to be around. She will be missed by many.

Preceded in death by her first husband of 36 years, John Filgis, her second husband of 27 years, Joseph Abbas, her children, Betty Ann Adams, John Filgis Jr and Debra Frederick and seven siblings.

Rita is survived by her beloved daughter, Mary Margaret 'Peg' Newberry, eight grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren, and five great great grandchildren.

A visitation will be held on Sunday, October 22nd from 12NOON- 2:00pm at Mueller Funeral Home, 6791 Tylersville Road, Mason, OH 45040. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Monday, October 23rd at 11:00am with visitation one hour prior all at St John the Evangelist Church, 9080 Cincinnati Dayton Rd, West Chester, OH.  Interment to follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
