Rita E. Messersmith

Rita E. Messersmith (nee Maloney) of West Chester, Ohio passed away peacefully on December 1, 2019 at the age of 101. She was born June 10, 1918 in Aspinwall, Pennsylvania to John and Margaret (nee Donnelly) Maloney.

Rita loved her family and spent a great deal of time with her three children, eight grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.  She loved to cook and bake and have the family over as often as possible for dinner and active discussions. She enjoyed watching the Notre Dame games and cheering on the Fighting Irish! Rita was an active member of St. John's until her health would not allow her to attend mass any longer.

Rita was preceded in death by her parents, John and Margaret Maloney, the absolute love of her life and husband of 59 years, Thomas R. Messersmith, Sr.; daughter-in-law, Sheila Messersmith and sisters, Anna Shubert, Frances Mellott, Marguerite Evans and Abina Noble.

Rita is survived by her children, Thomas R. Messersmith, Jr.; Cathy (Jim) Foley and Ronald J. (Jackie) Messersmith; eight grandchildren, Jennifer Messersmith, Matt Messersmith, Bryan Messersmith, Melissa Messersmith, Erin (Foley) Cloran, Jimmy Foley, Emily Messersmith, Tyler Messersmith and 11 great grandchildren.

Visitation will be held on Monday, December 9, 2019 from 10am-11am at St. Maximilian Kolbe Catholic Church, 5720 Hamilton-Mason Road, Liberty Township, OH.  Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 11am.   Entombment will be at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Cincinnati, OH.
