Sandra Ann Hagenbarth

November 19, 1941 — March 16, 2024

In the gentle glow of a November dawn, Sandra Ann Hagenbarth (née Cupini) was welcomed into this world in Millville, New Jersey, on November 19, 1941, the beloved daughter of Anselmo and Mae (née Borasi) Cupini. She grew up in Vineland,NJ on a small farm and graduated from Sacred Heart High School and later from Chestnut Hill College with a B.S degree in Mathematics with a follow-up M.A. at Catholic University. Her journey through life was a tapestry of vivid moments, woven from the threads of love, kindness, and an unwavering spirit of generosity that illuminated the lives of all who knew her. Sandy’s chapter on Earth closed as peacefully as it had unfolded, on March 16, 2024, in West Chester, Ohio, at the venerable age of 82.

Sandy’s life was a vibrant journey that took her across continents and through the pages of a love story that began in Bitburg, Germany, in 1967, where she married her soulmate, Thomas Hagenbarth. Together, they embarked on life's adventure, nurturing a family that would grow to embody the values she held dear. Sandy’s heart was a garden in which the seeds of love, planted alongside Thomas, blossomed into two remarkable children, and in time, flourished with the joy of grandchildren. Her life was a testament to the belief that the essence of existence is not in receiving, but in giving, a motto she lived by every day.

Sandy’s hands, always eager to express her love through action, found joy in the simplest of moments—be it a shared afternoon baking with her grandchildren, the tender care of plants in the garden or explaining the difference between itemized and standard deductions. She was a frequent volunteer for several church functions always willing to provide a helping hand.  Her professional life complimented her personal one, where she completed 40+ years of service at H&R Block managing a branch office, teaching tax preparation, and representing those under IRS audit.  Each act of kindness, a thread in the beautiful tapestry of her life, left indelible marks on the hearts of those she touched.

Sandy’s laughter was infectious, brimming with a joyous giddiness that effortlessly brought smiles to the faces of her grandchildren, grand-nieces, and nephews. And just like all the Cupini children, her hugs were warm and encompassing, leaving everyone who received them feeling elated, cherished, and secure—reminding you that there was no better place to be than in her embrace.

Preceded in her journey by her parents, Anselmo and Mae Cupini, and her sister, Gini McMenamin, Sandy's legacy of love and generosity endures through her devoted husband, Thomas Hagenbarth; her son, Mike (Kirsten) Hagenbarth; her daughter, Jennifer (Brian) LeCount; her cherished grandchildren, Meghan, Alex, Matthew, Jack, Bella, and Noah; her brother, Joseph (Margaret) Cupini; and a constellation of loving family members and friends whose lives were brighter for her presence.

The community is invited to gather and share in the celebration of Sandy's life, reflecting on the joy and love she brought into our world.
