Sandy J. Decker

September 18, 1960 — November 3, 2023

Sandra J. 'Sandy' Decker (Riehle) 63 of Mason, OH passed away Friday, November 3, 2023 from a rare brain disorder called PSP (Progressive Supranuclear Palsy). Sandy was born in Columbus, OH to Kenneth and Janet Riehle and soon after moved to Arlington Heights, a suburb of Chicago where she grew up. After she graduated from the University of Evansville and met her husband Dannie, they together then lived and raised their children in Newburgh Indiana.

Sandy was a beautiful, loving, and caring wife, mother and especially grandmother. She had an overflowing heart filled with love and care for her family. She always took care of others before herself. After being diagnosed with PSP a little over 2 years ago, her family band together and made the decision to move to Mason, OH to live under one roof for added support. There she enjoyed more precious time with her family. Some of her favorite things included her grandson running down the hallway to jump into bed with her, sharing her morning coffee with her husband while watching Hoda and Jenna on TV, and a good sangria while out to eat with her family all together. Sandy enjoyed spending time with her daughter especially on Fridays at the “Schaffer Salon” and talking with her son about his many travels. She was so proud of them both and living in the same home over the last year was a gift beyond measure. She also loved the beach and sunsets in Seaside, FL where she could ride her bike on the many trails with another joy in her life, her yorkie “Rocky” riding in the front basket. Sandy was also a gifted artist and loved sharing and teaching her love for art as an art teacher in both Evansville and Newburgh, Indiana.for many years.

Sandy was predeceased by her father Kenneth Riehle and her dear aunt Bonnie Roberts.

She is survived by her loving husband of 41 years, Dannie and their two children, Michelle (Austin) Schaffer and Ryan Decker, her beloved grandson Decker Schaffer, devoted mother Janet Riehle, and sisters Linda, Kathy and Candiss Riehle.

The Decker family would like to thank the Neurology team at UC Gardner Neuroscience Institute and the Intensive Care Unit at UC West Chester Hospital for all the love and care they provided throughout. Despite her devastating diagnosis of PSP, she was determined to fight and participated in several extensive medical trials to help research for causes and a cure. We have decided to honor her memory by raising awareness of this condition.
