LIVESTREAM SERVICE FOR SHERMAN LEE TAYLOR
Born August 22, 1945, Sherman was the fifth child of the late Jasper and Sylvia Taylor in Pine Bluff Arkansas. He received his education in the Pine Bluff School District, graduating from Merrill High School in 1963. He then attended Arkansas AM& N college (now University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff) graduating in 1970 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemistry with a Minor in Physics.
His early years were spent in Pine Bluff, Arkansas where he gave his life to Christ and was baptized at Mt. Nebo Baptist Church by Reverend J. L. Lawson.
It was in Pine Bluff he met the love of his life, Georgia Butler. They were United in Holy Matrimony in 1972 and relocated to Akron, Ohio. To that union two sons were born, Sherman and Sean.
Sherman worked at Goodyear Tires for 40 plus years. He held many different roles from Chief Chemist to being part of the Product Analysis team. Sherman had an incredible work ethic, never taking a sick day through his 4-decade career. However, what was most important to him was the many relationships he cultivated beyond being just “co-workers.” Sherman was always positive and had a great outlook on life. There were no obstacles that he couldn’t overcome. He instilled that positive energy into his sons.
Sherman enjoyed all things sports, but coaching was what he cherished most. His slow pitch softball team, Dubl Tyme, won many local, state, and national tournaments. He bonded with his sons through coaching their basketball teams as they grew up. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed drag racing in his early adult years. He also loved to travel, with Las Vegas being one of his favorite destinations. But most of all he enjoyed spending time with his wife Georgia, his sons, and his grandchildren.
He leaves to cherish his memories, his wife of 51 years, Georgia; his sons Sherman (Andrew) Taylor II and Sean (Michelle Skrovan) Taylor; grandchildren Sherman Taylor III and Shinobi “Nate” Taylor; siblings Margaret Estis, Alton (Vanessa) Taylor, Maurice (Carmen) Taylor, Cynthia (Ken) Whitmore, Sharon Harris, Cedric (Kathleen) Taylor, and Stephany Toney. He is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings Jasper Taylor Jr., Ester Taylor, Sylvester “Sonny” Taylor and Lavern Price.
