NOTICE..... VISITATION AND FUNERAL MASS FOR SHIRLEY WITZMAN HAVE BEEN CANCELED FOR THIS TUESDAY, OCTOBER 18TH DUE TO FAMILY ILLNESS. Rescheduled for Monday, October 24, 2022

Shirley Witzman of Monroe, Ohio passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 11, 2022 at the age of 86.  She was born on May 2, 1936 in Cincinnati, Ohio to Frank and Catherine (nee Bachman) Lucas.

Shirley was a very loving mom and grandma and her happiest times were when she was doing things with her children and grandchildren.  She was a selfless person whose biggest concern was the health and well-being of her family and friends. She had a very strong belief in God, honesty, and a good work ethic. Shirley demonstrated these traits throughout her life.

Shirley especially loved the holidays of Thanksgiving and Christmas because she was able get all her children and grandchildren together.  She found joy in cooking turkey dinners for both holidays.  She also enjoyed shopping for “deals” throughout the year, so that she could always put large stacks of presents around the Christmas tree.

Shirley was an avid sports fan and her favorite sport was the one that her grandkids were currently playing.  Attending her grandsons’ sporting events was one of her greatest joys. She was given the nickname of “Soccer Grandma” by her grandsons’ coach due to her almost perfect attendance at their soccer matches over many years.  She was also a big fan of college basketball and used her knowledge to win several March Madness pools.

Thanks to the generosity of her brother Don, Shirley and their sister Jane were able to travel extensively throughout the US and even took a few trips abroad.  Her favorite and most visited destination with them was St. Pete Beach in Florida.  Shirley also enjoyed the many trips she took with her children and grandchildren to Lake Cumberland and Panama City Beach, Florida.  She would always say “I am so lucky” when she was included in the trips with her children and grandchildren.

Shirley’s family will always cherish the times they got to spend with her and will be forever grateful for her selfless love for them.  Shirley’s family prays that God loves and takes care of her as well as she loved and took care of them.

Shirley is survived by children Linda (Glenn) Meade, Bob (Tracy) Witzman, and Gail (Dan) Howard; grandchildren Sarah (Kyle) Ater, Justin (Ryanna) Meade, Matthew Witzman, Kyle (Alexandra) Witzman, and Tamara (Randy) Huss; great-grandchildren Kaylee Meade, Hudson Meade, Madeline Meade, Aiden Huss, Jameson Huss, and Wyatt Ater; brother Don Lucas and many other extended family members and friends.

Shirley was preceded in death by parents Frank and Catherine Lucas, brother Frank Lucas, brother Ralph Lucas, and sister Jane Beckman.
