Stanley Rammes

Stan Rammes grew up in Cincinnati, Ohio.  He attended Western Hills High School where he played in the band and orchestra, was Sports Editor of the “Breeze” and a member of the tennis team.  At this time of his life his ambition was to obtain a journalism degree and become a sports writer.

Stan was an excellent trombone player.  He played in a number of dance bands in the Cincinnati area.  His brother Robert, an accomplished clarinist had played with the Cincinnati Symphony and the US Navy band.  Ear problems forced Stan to give up music as a career.

During this time he became an excellent tennis player.  He won the Western Hills Summer Title at the age of 17 but lost in doubles to the eventual state champion.

American History was his next interest.  He obtained a BS in Education and a MA in Social Sciences from the University of Cincinnati and was elected to Phi Delta Kappa Honorary fraternity.

He married his wife, Ruth of 54 years in 1958.  They have one daughter Karen and two grandchildren Joshua and Samantha.

He taught in the Cincinnati School system, was chairman of his department and a member of the Superintendent Advisory Council.  While teaching during the day he taught history for 13 years in the Adult Evening Program.  He also became Sports Editor of the weekly newspaper covering the Greater Cincinnati Area interviewing sports personalities.  In his first teaching position he became acquainted with Pete Rose.

Later he taught at Southern State College in Wilmington, Ohio teaching American History, Government and coaching tennis.  Wilmington was a Quaker area, a place where Ruth, his wife could do research on her family.  Ruth was also a member of the DAR.

Before he moved to Williamsburg, he was offered a position at the University of Cincinnati but decided to retire to Williamsburg, a place he and his wife had visited a number of times.

Stan volunteered for Colonial Williamsburg.  He did orientation walks, was an “Ambassador” and led tours at the Saint George Tucker House.

Working for a private concern, he became a license tour guide taking adults and children to Jamestown and Williamsburg.

He was a member of the Colonial of Williamsburg discussing affairs of the city with local residents and city leaders.

He also was a member of CRMC, Colonial Men's Republican Club.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 28th from 10:00am-11:00am with a funeral service at 11:00am all at Mueller Funeral Home, 6791 Tylersville Road, Mason, OH 45040. Inurnment in Arlington Memorial Gardens.

Memorial donations may be made to the Dementia Association in Stan's name.
