Susan (Rose) Dorr of Cincinnati, OH was welcomed home by the Lord on Thursday, June 27, 2024. Born to the late Francis and Margaret Rose on February 21, 1948, Susan spent her life creating an incredible partnership with her loving husband of 53 years, John, whom she married on July 10, 1971, encouraging her many nieces and nephews, and most importantly, serving her Lord and Savior. Using his guiding light, she strove to build a stronger community everywhere she went through her generous and caring spirit.
Susan had a way of making strangers into friends and friends into family as she worked to integrate herself into each new community. Whether it be chatting with the Starbuck baristas at the closest locations, attending band competitions for her nephews, or giving advice to her family, Susan’s bright smile, infectious laugh, and jovial personality could put you at ease and receptive to her thoughts. As a devout Christian, she ensured her love and guidance was driven by the word of the Lord with a drive to ensure all could know him as well.
Susan leaned on his love to give her the strength to get through whatever challenges she faced and to never let health struggles slow her down as she did not let on to how much pain she endured on a daily basis. Never one to shy away from an adventure, Susan did not bat an eye when any opportunity arose for her and John to move from city to city or even across state lines, including several journeys from Ohio to Florida. As long as there was a beach or lake nearby, Susan could find her happy place. No matter where they went or how long they stayed, she took great pride in making their house into a home where they could grow their love stronger to ensure their commitment would last not only a lifetime but for eternity. While they may not have been blessed with human children to share this love with, they were fortunate to raise their fur children together.
Though she enjoyed her travels and put roots wherever she went, she never forgot her deepest ones connected to her family whom she loved fiercely and the community of Zanesville where she grew up. As a 1966 graduate of Maysville High School, she was thankful for the education she and John received in their small hometown, which sparked a passion for her and John to establish the John and Susan (Rose) Dorr Scholarship Fund to give back to that community. This provides opportunities for students in the community to build on their own small town educational experiences.
Her legacy will live on through each student who will be able to pursue their dreams and build on their own Zanesville heritage as well as the ones who survive her who will continue to share her memory. In addition to her faithful husband, John, this includes, her sister Sandy Bartos, and of course, her beloved fur baby, Kali, as well as many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister, Sally Rose Pines, and her adored fur children, Mitzi, Muffy, Mandy, Kayle, and Kylee.
Family and friends may call from 5:00-8:00pm, Tuesday, July 16, 2024 at Mueller Funeral Home, 6791 Tylersville Rd, Mason, Ohio 45040 with a funeral service to follow on Wednesday, July 17, 2024 at 10am. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the John & Susan (Rose) Dorr Scholarship .
